Last day at work! Awesome.

Had a good (?) weekend. Sort of. Play on Thurs and Fri, went pretty well! Glad it's all over and done with, mostly. Was a cursed production from the beginning, really. First, we couldn't do it by December 2006, because of the irregularity of the cast when it came to rehearsals. So we changed the date till April 2007 and almost all of the original cast had to quit due to busy schedules (school and what not). Then once 2007 came, we had a mish-mash cast from all over, most of whom have no experience at all (and subsequently, little passion for theatre and discipline for rehearsals)... Irregular attendance for rehearsals struck once again. Woe is us! But honestly? I thought the play turned out well, despite all the shit that's happened. It was a pretty pretty play with all the hair, make-up, lighting, sound... and of course, the cast.

Loved the hair and make-up and costumes especially! Haha did my own. Thought it was pretty cool. Btw, I'm pretty handy with a make-up brush and hair curler, so if anyone needs help getting ready for a big dinner, give me a call anytime. :)

Jane did costumes... Did I mention she's awesome? Yes she is. Haha. Together, we will make your model the hottest one at Vaunt '07. She's already pretty hot to begin with, from what I hear... French. :)

Jane and Me.

Vaunt is the fashion show/competition that's organized by YouthEmpire, btw. Haha I'm helping them publicize! I need to get paid for this.

Check out the mad woman at the back.
Is her hair amazing, or is her hair amazing? (I take full credit for it haha.)

Missed the free drinks on the last night of the play (Friday) because I was at the prata place opp Zouk, with Yiggs. Everyone thought he was my boyfriend coz we were walking around, holding hands etc. Yiggs was rather distraught at that. By the end of the prata session, he was mistaken for my boyfriend at least 4 times, and he wailed out to the heavens "WHY DO I LOOK LIKE YOUR BOYFRIEND???". I don't know either. I thought it was pretty obvious he wasn't interested in me... Or any girl to begin with. You can tell a guy ain't interested when even if you're wearing a top that clearly shows them the valley of hope located at your chest area, they don't look.

Sherry: Max, your boyfriend ah?
Max: NO. My brother.
Sherry: LIAR.
Max: Ok he's my friend. Who is attached.
Bindi: I don't see his girlfriend... (Winks at me)
Max: Yeah... (Gives Yiggs and 'haha you must be kidding me' face)
Yiggs: Haha. Neither do I. (Cue: Secret smile)

By the time I got back, Sab had somehow managed to get herself drunk. She's really cute when she's drunk. But she's really cute even when she's not drunk... And I was only gone an hour! Found her in the toilet later in the night, her lychee martini apparently coming back up through her nostrils.

I have to mention this before I forget: Just before the play started on Fri, our lead suddenly realised she urgently required a toilet. But there was none backstage! So in desperation, she pee-d in the bin. Like, seriously. It was hilarious. They took the curtains and surrounded her while she sat atop the big black bin and let go. Good thing we had tissues. Haha.

Later in the night we discovered one of the doors backstage led to Winebar, which has a toilet. Oops? They change the bin lining every night anyway. Haha.

I love my cast; they're mildly insane.

The cast and Jane.

Kids under 18 couldn't go back into the club for the after-party though! Kinda sucked after they left... Just me, Bindi and Sab + our director and his friends. I didn't know them at all, so it was kinda awkward. I'm the kind of person that takes a while to warm up to people. Surprising? I'm good enough at polite conversation, but a club isn't the place for conversation.
I'm such a lesbian clubber. I don't dance with boys. I dance alone, or with girls. Or with gay men. Haha. I find grinding on the dancefloor really... Cheap. I'm so not comfortable with dancing so raunchily with a boy... Unless he's My Boy. But My Boy does not exist... Yet.

I wanted a break to be single, after all. Shall take my time, and enjoy singledomfreedom... :)

One play down, one more to go!

Upstage is putting up another production (July 27th and 28th). I'm doing costumes and make-up, naturally. Haha. I could consider this a profession (I have, actually) but I just don't think it'll make enough money? Money is my main motivator. I think it's probably because I don't have enough of it. 24/7 I'm thinking how to earn money. I'm telling all my friends in advance, because I predict that the show will be good (Neil Simon's God's Favourite), so you all NEED to come watch.

For Students, By Students. :) Just like FUBU. (Omg what happened to FUBU? They like dropped off the face of the earth... Not that I'm terribly into hip-hop street wear anyway but they got a cute name. )

Funny thing happened over the weekend - Sarah and Anita got married! It was extremely bizarre yet really sweet, because the two of them are such great friends. So it was really fitting that they married each other. Haha. Hadri conducted the ceremony. Matin taped it and it should be on youtube.com... Go look for it!

The wedding cake.

It was a beautiful wedding at Anita's house. Haha it was held at the balcony, and there was everything that a wedding was supposed to have - cake, reception, a priest, rings, ring bearer, flowers (so it wasn't a bouquet, but it was cute!). Matin gave Mastan away, and Trevor gave Anita away. And we all pretended to cry tears of joy. :'(
The happily married couple :)

Hadri: And today, you can finally consummate you relationship.
Mastan: Yay! I'm so happy we can finally consummated!
Max: DO YOU KNOW WHAT CONSUMMATE MEANS?!
Dee: IT MEANS HAVE SEX!!
Mastan: Omg EW!
Max: Hey you're supposed to have champagne and drink from each other's glasses.
Mastan: This one muslim wedding, no alcohol.
Max: You just married a woman.
Met Dee and Anita at Timbre later that night to listen to Anita's brother's band (West Grand Boulevard) play. I really like DKNY (their new song) it's all happy and full of pep! Like, WHEE! Haha... Timmy was good too! Loved every song they played... 1979, Fake Plastic Trees, Dakota, Paranoid Android (like, woah ambitious!)...
Max: His voice is like finely ground sand (slipping through your hands).
Also had the worst panna cotta and mojito in my life there, but music+company redeemed everything.
Sigh. Last day of work. No more free internet. No more cute guy with hongky name. No more cool surgeries. No more waking up at 7 am to get to work (YESSS...). No more sneakily using MSN, or Facebook, or Blogger...
No more regular timetable!
Now what am I gonna do with my life...
Max: Eh we both work at Island Creamery la! We live in the west anyway.
Dawn: Har Island Creamery ah...
Max: Yah you must work with me. I don't want to be associated with the other girls that work there... You know, the 6th Ave/Bt Timah type. So not me la.
Dawn: Yeah! That's why I really don't want to work there! I don't want to be mistaken for a Bt Timah girl! (Dawn technically lives in Bt Timah, but I'm sure you guys get what we mean when we say 'Bt Timah Girl')
Max: Then how? I don't want to work at like, ScoopZ at IMM. Island Creamery is cool!
Dawn: Bird park?

“In this ultra modern, information filled world where everything is over analysed and over serious, The Crash is here to say that it is still ok to treat music as an escape. It is possible to include humour in music without making it cheap or novelty. There is no shame in being sentimental. It is fine to admit that this music – whether other people think it is uncool or not - makes you want to smile, or laugh, or cry. In fact, it is our main challenge and intention with our music to make people laugh and cry at the same time. To enjoy ‘Melodrama’ you need to leave your cynicism with your coat at the door before you hit the dance floor!”

“The name of the album does give a clue to the listener as to how to approach us. ‘Melodrama’ is supposed to be an overly emotional, larger than life, theatrical experience. It’s all about your parents dancing at weddings, your first awkward kiss at the youth club, the first time you got drunk, the times when you felt that you could change the world, the nights when you looked at the sky full of stars and realised that you are part of something bigger than you can ever imagine, it’s about yearning and being full of desire and hope. It is all of these things and it feels wonderful”

Read their full bio at their website!

Thank you, The Crash. I wish there was more music made with those themes in mind... Haha I love transporter music. Stuff that brings you back! Haha talk about Blast from the Past, man.
Teemu Brunila is pretty cute too, to boot. Heh. I am a silly girlie.

Hey all.

Woke up today in an empty house. This is what happens when you actually get to sleep in, which hasn't happened to me in a while now.

But waking up in an empty house is depressing. I had to find my own breakfast (mom left some char siew bun thing), then I couldn't be bothered to go out to buy my own lunch. Then I watched tv, all the time wondering why I was watching Huan Zhu Ge Ge/X Games:Biking. Then I decided I should bathe the dog, because I told my parents I would.

So I got up, got the towels, put them outside the bathroom, stared at my dog, then came into the com room and started blogging.

I just can't seem to give a fuck today.

I remember dreaming that some guy confessed his love to me. Haha. Duuude. You are sooo patheetic... I woke up, started at my ceiling and mentally said to myself, "Max, you need to get a boyfriend. Before you turn lesbian."

Been thinking about turning lesbian lately. Haha. Beyond strange, I tell you.

Everyone's a little queer so why can't she be a little straight?

I guess it's me, being needy. Craving affection.

My friend thinks I'm insecure, and I'm projecting my desires to want to be like the girls I meet onto them, making myself feel like I actually want them, when it's me who wants to be them.

Make sense?

Kinda. But no, I'm not insecure.

I just want someone to snuggle up to. It sounds lame when I put it like that. It'd be cooler if I was actually insecure. Haha.

I'm just glad I have a dog.

Okay, time for some memories:

Rehearsals were crazy fun. I'm really beginning to like my cast+crew. They're either crazy cool, or semi-retarded. Both of which are requirements for good company, in my books. Haha. My affection's kinda delayed, but well. The production's the week... after this, I doubt we'll see each other again.

Put on awesomely cool make-up and hairstyles during rehearsals for myself and other people. Got invited to do hair and make-up for upcoming youth fashion show for one of the designers. Yay!

Craving for MAC make-up.

Having a less-than-awesome time out with Jen on his last night in Sg. We got rejected from Oosh because of my slippers (haha oops I thought we were going to Dempsey's Hut which has like no dresscode). Then we went to Hacienda for a beer, but they played horribly loud mood music (talk about weird!) so we left for P.S. Cafe for ultra-deeelish choc fudge brownie cake thingy with ice cream! It's so good, I swear it's sinful. I also had to pay like 12 bucks for it. Okay actually, Jen paid.

Jen: Here I'll give you the money so you'll like you're paying.
Max: Why do I want to look like I'm paying.
Jen: You don't, but I like to pretend I'm being treated to free stuff. (Passes me cash) Oh wait, Bryan owes you 18 bucks.
Max: Did he pass you the money just now?
Jen: No. (shifty eyes) Okay fine he did.
Max: Okay so I'll take this, and you pass me the money to pay for the cake.
Jen: Oh oh, how about - I pass you this money (points to cash already on the table - i.e. my cash from Bryan) , you pay with this money, and we leave.
Max: (Pause.) How stupid do you think I am? Give me the damn money for the cake.

Well P.S. Cafe was pretty fun actually. In retrospect. I mean sure, it's kinda quiet and boring because it's a dinner-ish place so there's no music and/or rowdy drunk people. And sure, the people around us were semi-eavesdropping on our plot to escape the place without paying (Jen was planning to run across the field behind us to the road while I hid in the toilet. Decoy!). But it was nice to sit around and talk shit, as always.

I guess I'll cya when you're back, dude.

Those guys were so dude-ly. They were like, "Du-uuu-uuu-uuu-ude... That is so-oo-oooo awesom-mm-mmee..."

Max: Just make everything a question, and you immediately sound stupid.
Jen: That only applies for girls.
Max: Fine.

Then on Saturday? We went to like the movies? And like, there was this totally cute guy? And like, he was so checking us out?

This one's for Mark -

Enjoy!

I am thinking it's a sign
That the freckles in our eyes
Are mirror images
And when we kiss they're perfectly aligned

And I have to speculate
That God Himself did make

Us into corresponding shapes
Like puzzle pieces from the clay

And true it may seem like a stretch
But it's thoughts like this that catch
My troubled head when you're away
And when I am missing you to death

And when you are out there on the road
For several weeks of shows
And when you scan the radio
I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
"Come down now" they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
"Come down now" but we'll stay

I tried my best to leave
This all on your machine
But the persistent beat
It sounded thin upon the sending

And that frankly will not fly
You'll hear the shrillest highs
And lowest lows with the windows down
And this is guiding you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
"Come down now" they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
"Come down now" but we'll stay

Yesterday I went with Dawn to Mediacorp Radio. We went there for lessons to become community reporters for 93.8 Live! Sounds kinda lame, I know. It is kinda lame actually. But it's something different, so we signed up for it. We definitely didn't expect the crowd to turn out like that.

Dawn and Max are walking with the Lady-in-Charge. They realise that they are being followed by a group of people.
Max: (Mutters) Dawn. Are those people with us?
Dawn: (Mutters) I think so. They're following us.
Max: (Turns around) They don't look like... the type of people...
Dawn: I know.
Max: (starts laughing to herself)
Dawn: Why are you laughing?
Max: (Laughing) I find our situation highly amusing.
Dawn: Stop laughing.
Max: (Laughing) I can't help it. This is too bizarre.
Dawn: (Starts laughing too)

The people there were rather odd... To say the least. They were old, for one. And they're were kinda CHEEENA. I couldn't figure out what they were saying half the time, and the other half of the time when I could understand them, I was kind of puzzled by WHY they were saying that. Major communication breakdown. I don't think they understood half of what I was saying either.

The woman teaching us was called Rose. Haha. It's one of those throwback 60's names because nobody now's called Rose unless you're angmoh and you look like snow white. (Ooh I LOVE!) The activity itself was pretty interesting... We have to use our mobiles and call back to the station, to report on activities that our organizations are planning - hence, "community reporter". Yeah. Okay so basically Dawn and I were in a room of neighbourhood social workers/activists yesterday night. Which is bizarre enough an experience on it's own merits, even without the strangeness of the people.

The only normal people we met yesterday was a girl one year older, Xiao Ying, and this other guy from NUS whose name eludes me (I'm terrible with chinese names - they're all so similar!). And Linda, who speaks like an ah lian who went to Australia to study... Her voice is sweet, she has a slight problem with grammar, can't roll her tongue around vowels and 'th', and when she answers affirmative she says 'yeeea'. Not ya, not yes, not ok, not yarr, not yeah... Yeeea. How aussie. Haha. Anyway she IS an ah lian who went to Australia to study. But yes, she is a nice lian. :)

We went on the same night as The Dance Floor, so there were a lot of people outside the TV building and in Reception. OMG the people were so SCARY... Each one of them was evil-eying me and Dawn because we were not dressed in sneakers, skinny jeans, cheap 'rocker' or 'vintage' tees, wearing a lot of eyeliner and smoking. And they all looked like they were trying to look tough. HAHA. I walked really fast past all of them. It was all I could do from laughing out loud.

Gotta love that angry and disillusioned punk kid look.

But I think the really strange ones are the kids that buy the Sony Walkman phone just so they can blast their Avril Lavigne or Snoop Dogg because "they cannot survive without music". Haha wah so artistic and cool siah. And they're like "OMG EVERYONE! Listen to my music! It's the best." or like "OMG I have so much attitude and it shows through my music". Like, hello? Insecure, some?

Dad: Max ah. This what... what, Snoopy Dog Dog ah. Very famous wan you know?
Me: Yes Dad. I know who Snoop Dogg is.

The night ended with a fittingly twilight-zone-moment as well - Dawn and I were trying to find our way out of the shithole that is where Mediacorp is located, when we spotted a van.

Dawn and Max stand around and wonder how they will ever find their way off Caldecott Hill before sunrise, and before the angry teenagers behind them figure out that they are mocking them from a safe distance.
Dawn: Eh there's a van!
Max: Haha! We stow away on it la, they won't notice us. Haha.
Dawn: Omg. I think we know those people.
Max: (Takes a closer look at the figures shrouded in the darkness of that comes with 9pm) Omg. Yeah. Those are our... Classmates.

Yeah well so apparently one of our classmates drives a van. Like the kind you transport cargo in? Yeah. The Thermographer Classmate. Haha. (I never even knew that it was a word before last night) Anyway so we sat in the hollow of the van, together with all the other classmates (Apparently they all live in the same area. Yes they are from the same organization, somewhere in the East.) And it was one of the most surreal experiences I have had recently. It even trumps the time I had to call Tubby 'Superman' for some EDB activity.

Just imagine - the 6 of us, huddled in the back of the van (there were no seats), squinting everytime a car approached from behind us because the light from its headlights would shine through the back window like floodlights.

I seriously felt like a fugitive. Dawn was sliding all over the floor HAHA.

Max: Dawn. I feel like I'm an illegal immigrant from Mexico.
Dawn: What? Why Mexico?!
Max: You know, when you watch tv, the people smuggling across the border are always Mexicans!
Dawn: Haha oh yeah.
Max: Please la, then from where? JB ah? You can't even smuggle DVDs in from JB, you want to smuggle people ah.

If you've never sat in the back of a van before, I highly suggest that you try it out one day. So that you will finally appreciate what your ancestors had to endure when they travelled across seas in overcrowded ships or trains, some illegally.

Max: They're a very strange bunch, aren't they?
Dawn: YEAH. I TOTALLY AGREE. ESPECIALLY THAT... (let's not mention names)
Max: Yeah. Like, if you had met them in school, you would have never talked to them.
Dawn: Yeah!
Max: But they're nice la.
Dawn: Yeah...
Max: Just very strange.
Dawn: Yeah.
Max: Eh I'm not coming next week. I got my play on thursday.
Dawn: Damn you.

Haha and I just realised. The woman teaching us reminds me a lot of Najip Ali. I don't think it's right that any woman can remind me of Najip Ali. No chinese woman should remind you of a sexually-ambiguous malay man.

Let us all listen to happy music, and be happy. :)

Because I need a fuckin pick-me-up, to take my mind off the fact that I'm

Alone again, naturally.

Haha but really, I really like Bowling for Soup. It always makes me smile. I wish I could find a boy like that. Heh
This just in: ALTHEA FOUND MY PHONE WITH THE CLEANER! Yay!!

The way I put it, it almost sounds like Althea hunted the cleaner down, found her huddled in a dark corner hiding the phone. But YES SHE FOUND THE PHONE! Thanksss :) :) You have made my day, Althea.

Max: OMG ALTHEA THANK YOU I BUY YOU DRINK OKAY.
Althea: You buy me drink? You buy me medicine la! You know this morning I woke up (snivel snivel sniff sniff)... (continues making sickly noises)

Althea: Okay. I have your phone in front of me, but the calls are not going through. I need to check if it's your phone... Any distinctive features?
Max: It's... red?
Althea: Okay ya.
Max: Oh! Does it have a scratch at the top of the cover?
Althea: Uh yeah.
Max: Okay it's mine!
Althea: How about like specific stuff like messages or something...
Max: Oh uh... Heh. Uhm. When you turn it on, it should say "Hello sexy."
Althea: Uh... Okay... You wait ah. (Switches phone on) Okay... What's the wallpaper?
Max: (Gets progressively more embarrassed) Heh. Uhm. It should say "Damn glam buns".
Althea: Yea it's your phone.

FYI, I took a picture of an ad for a hair salon. Haha it's called Vain Port! Omg they're punnier than you, Max! It's at Keppel Club if you're wondering. Haha so the ad said:

Damn glam evening hairdos/
Buns
Hence, "Damn glam Buns". Heh.
Oh.My.God.

I think I lost my phone.

Fuck!

For those of you who know me, I used to lose my phone REALLY often. Like, seriously. 4 phones in a year? Yeap. Or was it 5?

I left it in the rehearsal room yesterday night! At 7-ish AM, my phone was still ringing. Then at 9 am it stops ringing. Meaning, between 7 and 9 in the morning, somebody found my phone in the room and switched it off. Only a cleaner or a security guard would be in the room at that time... So now, my friend's helping me find out who was in the room at that time. Then, I will THREATEN that person into giving me my phone back.

YOUR MONEY OR YOUR JOB, YOU SORRY SOUL.

I probably shouldn't have left it in the room anyway, but YOUR MONEY OR YOUR JOB, YOU SORRY SOUL! It's not even a good phone. It's just really pretty.

Fuck.
Jack Johnson always picks me up. :) Such nice warm fuzzy feelings. I think it's a simulation of love.

Well, if it wasn't love, it was a lot like love.

Sat in the office today devouring music and information about my latest obsessions - Death from Above 1979, and Moving Units. Watched a few videos of The Shins too. Haha.

Moving Units epitomise dancefloor rock. For me anyway. I don't know if they intended themselves to sound like that, but that's how I'm interpreting it anyhoo. Yeah. Coined that phrase in my head this afternoon. Dancefloor Rock. It should be a proper genre. Hell yeah. You know, rock music that's got lots of... Sound effects (for lack of a better term). All those hand claps, synth noises, electronic beats, digitalised drum/bass/guitars. Really makes you wanna get off your chair and start shaking your booty. Hence, 'dancefloor'.

Death from Above 1979 is dancefloor rock too. And underground punk. I think they called themselves basement rock, or something like that. Thought it was cute. But you know, we don't really have a basement-culture here in Sg so the nuances of that phrase are somewhat lost on me. Sounds underground enough. Hoho. You're so punny, Max.

I think it's fascinating that DAF79 are just two people. Just like how it's fascinating that Counting Crows is formed with 9 people. You wouldn't be able to tell, from the music. But then again, it's hard to tell Devin Davis' music was done all by himself. Layers upon layers of separate recordings of different instruments. Crazy. Alternatively, he could have played all the instruments himself at once, but somehow... I doubt that. Haha. Maybe he has a huge contraption like in The Way Things Work, and it allows him to play like a gazillion instruments simultaneously. In that case, he should be a physics professor.

What do you call a person that studies physics? A physic...ian? Phycist? Physist. Feeezeest.

Really wish I could download DAF's music. But my com is wonky. It's infested. With bugs. Ew. Like the computer bugs. It's not crawling with ants and maggots. Omg THAT IS SO GROSS.

Yeah, anyway, I want to buy their album too! But they disbanded already. It's kinda crazy. They have a whirlwind successful career, get right to the top, then disband. Something about the two of them growing older and in different directions, musically...

I think it's good that we're maturing. I mean, I wouldn't want to be like the Rolling Stones and play the same kind of music my entire life.

I probably mis-quoted on so many occasions but that's the gist of it. Found that rather amusing. All those old(er) people, so glad that the Rolling Stones haven't changed one bit... Heh.

Wonder if I'll be able to find their album.

Sheryl: Yea, the CD I'm looking for... Well, the last sale was 10 years ago at HMV.
Me: You're looking for Janis Joplin too?

I was kidding, of course. I was never looking for Janis Joplin. I prefer Ani Difranco.

Thumbed the first ride I could,
Can't be picky in the middle of the night.
He said, "Baby do you like to fool around?
Baby do you like to be touched?"
Maybe some other time,
Fuck you very much.

EveryStateLineAniDifranco

Yeaaah. Female Empowerment! Ok whatever.

Went for rehearsals after work. Play's next week and the lead can't remember her lines! She's been away a lot for various reasons, some more understandable than the others. But you know, at the end, when it's crunch time, it's all on her, really. So the pressure's on her to perform well, for her own sake, you know? Yeah. I'll worry about my part. It's the least you can do when the cast has been inconsistent for rehearsals. Wow understatement of the year. To be fair, it wasn't just her. And to be fair, she's never acted before. This whole theatre thing, it's really new to her. As is for a lot of the other people in the production. Was a little worried at first, but hey, we'll pull through. And we'll be fabulous no matter what. Hell yeah.

For anyone who cares, the play's this coming thursday and friday. If you consider me a good friend, don't come.

I'm kidding.

You can buy tickets, THEN don't come. We're raising money for charity after all, folks. Where's your fucking compassion?

Fabulous-ness.
These pictures are way overdue for posting. Okay, like a month overdue. Still. It was a happy day :)
I need a new cam. I need a new com. I need to install itunes and update my ipod. I need to reformat my com and reinstall Microsoft home or wtv you call it. Omg. I need like a complete technological make-over.

Can't you see that it's just rainin'
There ain't no need to go outside

But baby, you hardly even notice
When I try to show you
this song It's meant to keep you
From doin' what you're supposed to

Like wakin' up too early
Maybe we could sleep in
I'll make you banana pancakes
Pretend like it's the weekend now
And we could pretend it all the time
Can't you see that it's just rainin'
There ain't no need to go outside

But just maybe, like an ukulele
Mama made a baby
I really don't mind to practice
Because you're my little lady
Lady, lady love me
Because I love to lay here lazy
We could close the curtains
Pretend like there's no world outside
And we could pretend that all the time

Can't you see that it's just raining
There ain't no need to go outside

Ain't no need, ain't no need
Can't you see, can't you see
Rain all day and I don't mind

The telephone singing, ringing, it's too early
Don't pick it up
We don't need to

We got everything we need right here
And everything we need is enough
It's just so easy

When the whole world fits inside of your arms
Do we really need to pay attention to the alarm
Wake up slow, wake up slow

But baby, you hardly even notice
When I try to show you this song
It's meant to keep you
From doin' what your supposed to
Like wakin' up too early
Maybe we could sleep in
I'll make you banana pancakes
Pretend like it's the weekend now
And we could pretend it all the time

Can't you see that it's just rainin'
There ain't no need to go outside
Ain't no need, ain't no need
Rain all day and I really, really, really don't mind
Can't you see, can't you see
We've got to wake up slow

Went back to RJ today to see who my council grand-buddies are.

Two girls. :)

I am a proud grand-buddy.

Many huggs to Linc and Jiahui to the end of their gestation period. They are full-fledged buddies now, with their own little budlings! :)

It was nice to catch up.

It was nicer to go for buddy lunch with Shiyun's buddy family and talk crap for hours. Omg. I must have laughed till my stomach hurt so hard I thought I would pop, like a million times.

Shiyun's octopus face.
Jialiang's 156 Paedophile face.
Lincoln wanting to go for 300 in a red cape, brown underwear and a sharpened broomstick.
Shawn's bizarre laughter.
Remembering how Rollie farted during lecture.
Jialiang's broken gender-ambiguous voice.

And many more randomly hilarious moments.

Good times. :)
Mom just came home from work. She bought dinner+groceries on the way. She left her car by the side of the road outside our house, ran in with the bags, dumped them at the doorstep (I am not kidding), hollered, then ran off to park her car before someone tried to ram into it.

My parents are so strange sometimes.

I don't usually have much problem with this, of course. Mom does this a lot. She thinks it's more important that the food arrive home before she does. How sweet. Haha. The only problem with it this time was that she left the bags on the top step, right in front of the gate. I had to open the gate a crack, maneouver my arm around the gate, grab the bags, and in one swift motion open the gate AND yank the bags out of harm's way. If it wasn't for my dexterity and speed the bags would have been sent a terrifying 3 step plunge down onto the main corridor outside.

Thank Buddha for me. :)
(This is religiously incorrect in so many way, but you get my drift.)

Yesterday was not uneventful yet not entirely blog-worthy. It was, instead, a rather quote-worthy a night out in town, I must say. Hehe.

Max and Dee are at Cafe Iguana. They are sitting and chatting, and trying not to notice what an awful colour the Singapore River is in the day.
Me: It's not that I don't like them, I'm fine with them. I DO like them. But it's just that you know when they're in a big group, they form this clique... OKAY. Let's say we're a venn diagram.
Dee: A venn diagram.
Me: Yes. So I'm in one group, and they're in another. And we have mutual friends, right? So that's the overlapping part. So when we all get together, it's like, only their group get's shaded. And I'm left with like, the A' (read: "A prime") side.

Max, Bryan and Jen are at Brewerkz for dinner.
Me: You know, I suspect that you have the heart of a gay man.
Jen: Me? Why would I be gay?
Me: You have their... sensitivities.
Jen: (Mocking.) And what would the heart of a gay man be like? Is it Shiny and Pink?
Me: No, it's just made by Prada.
Jen: Why does it have to be Prada? Why does it have to be expensive? Why can't there be salt-of-the-earth gay men?
Me: There are no salt-of-the-earth gay men. They are all fabulous and love expensive things. :)
Jen: You're misled! Just because your gay friends are fabulous doesn't mean all gay men are. You need to know more gay men.
Me: You don't know any!

Max, Bryan and Jen are at Indochine having a few drinks.
Me: So in the army, they don't have doors in the showers?
Bryan: No. That's why they say you better not drop your soap. Because you know, if you bend over...
Jen: Just squat la. Haha. Omg can you imagine wat if someone was like hiding below you between your legs and you squat and you're like OKAY WHAT DID I JUST SIT ON.
Me and Bryan: (Exchange 'WTF' looks.)

Me: So Bryan. You get to see the other boys naked in the shower.
Bryan: I... guess... But I don't look.
Me: Right. But who's the biggest guy in your company? (Insert 3 suggestive eyebrow lifts)
Bryan: (Who is a pretty big-sized guy in general, does not get it.) (Leans back and says,) I'm pretty much the biggest guy in my company.
Jen: (Who gets it.) Woaaah allllriiiiight!
Me: You know when I say big, I mean BIG right. Like, at a certain part of the body, ONLY.
Bryan: What?!

Me: You don't like the mojito.
Bryan: It's just the stuff at the bottom...
Me: Those are mint leaves.
Bryan: ...Yeah well I don't like grass in my drink.

Thus concludes another good night out with friends. :)

Woah. I feel so ashamed. I totally did not realise that Incubus had a new album. Damn. What kind of fan am I?

Blame it imeem.com I guess. Emotionally transported back to my angsty sec sch days, but it's alright. It's not so bad when you've grown out of it already. Haha. I remember now why I love them the most. It's that wonderful... synergy. Haha. (An astar candidate kept using that word during our group assessment I thought it was kinda tacky and funny.) Just listen. Maybe you'll love them too. Try Light Grenades out first for a taste. It's fuckin kickass.

Found their new album on imeem.com. Found their old albums on imeem.com. I need music in the office, okay?

Meh. I love you, Brandon.

The new album's so mellow compared to ACLOTM... They're getting old... But hey, so am I. Haha. It's nice to feel like I'm growing with their music. Or maybe their music is growing with me.. I think Incubus has a psychic connection to my brain. They know just what kind of music I want right now.

I feel kinda odd like thinking about how I used to be and how I am now. It feels like I've changed. But have I really? I mean, I don't think so. But in small ways I think I have. I don't religiously follow the updates on band sites. I don't like to go on msn. (Although, that is probably a consequence of msn not liking me much as well. They tend to boot me out a lot.) I don't like a lot of the things that I used to like. Or love.

Sometimes it makes me feel a little guilty. Like I'm betraying the old me. Like sometimes when I turn down something, I hear the little voice inside tell me, "Max would have." Yeah well, Max then probably would have. Now I'm just older, possibly wiser, and definitely more afraid.

Trying to figure out my reaction to that. It almost feels like I've become a contradiction. Like I'm getting split personalities. It's my older self rejecting my younger self, yet fondly remembering it. I have this... love-hate relationship with my past. Yeeeap. You know that stirring inside you, whenever you think about something from when you were younger? Remembering something from then, that you thought you would love forever, only to grow older and realise you don't anymore.

Whoops? Haha. Whoops, indeed.

But you know, what they say is true - I wouldn't be who I am today (a rockin' specimen of a fine female, that is. haha.) if it wasn't for where I came from.
Hey I got a new widget up. It's some music playing thing. Stole the idea off Manda. Heh.

Music makes all the difference.

The office is cold. Quiet, except for the clicking of nails against keyboards, the occassional rhythm of footsteps, random conversations between colleagues. Hardly a topic gets thrown my way. I wouldn't know what to say about marriage, or babies, or business trips, anyway. Not that I mind though, polite conversation is tiring. I wouldn't go out of my way to look for it.

So I sit quietly at my desk... "working". Haha. I plug in my earphones. Swing and Jazz play. I'm in my own little world. This is music I could listen to all day. I feel like I haven't got a care in the world, and I'm lovin it (cue: MacD's music). In my little musical bubble I could just get lost in the undulating melodies, as they scale up and down making pretty, surprising patterns. I am transported back, to a time when life was less loud and scary. Everything was a nice pale washed-out colour. Yet, everything was grander, and larger than life. And most importantly, people didn't rush about, they glided. Across the street, to the theatre, dressed up and fabulous. Nothing seems real when you compare that world to ours. Now excuse me, while I pretend that I live in the 1950's.

I'm sitting in a smokey little jazz bar. It is dim, the only lighting coming from lamps with green lampshades, and the stagelights. I can hear the clinking of glasses at the tables around me. Elsewhere, I hear throaty laughter from a woman, her hair in perfectly set curls, and her lips perfectly painted in red. Perfect. The trumpet improv begins. The band strikes up, and soon I hear someone who sounds like Sarah Vaughn begin singing. And as I listen, they tell me - You got the blues hun, but it'll be alright. Everything will be alright. Just keep your swing, baby. Coz it don't mean a thing, if it ain't got the swing.

And all the while, my feet keep tappin along to that lovely offbeat rhythm.

Gonna take a sentimental journey
Gonna set my heart at ease
Gonna make a sentimental journey
To renew old memories

Got my bag, got my reservation
Spent each dime I could afford
Like a child in wild anticipation
Long to hear that "All aboard!"

Seven - that's the time we leave, at seven
I'll be waitin' up for heaven
Countin' every mile of railroad track
That takes me back

Never thought my heart could be so yearny
Why did I decide to roam?
Gotta take that sentimental journey
Sentimental journey home

Sentimental JourneyDoris Day

And I think it's awesome how all the women from then sounded a little she-male in their songs. Haha.

Woke up today at a glorious 1 pm.
Didn't feel quite as happy as I did when I went to bed, though...

List of things on bed:
1. Two pillows
2. Comforter
3. Teddy bear
4. Bolster
5. Me.

That's not enough to fill a double bed.

My beastie will go into the army tomorrow. Then who will I call at night, when I need a comforting voice, to remind me that I am not as alone as I feel? We may not be the best beasties around, but we do have each other's backs, no? So now that you've got some rifle to take care of you... Well, I think I need to get a gun of my own. Hmm. :)

Hohum dunno if you'll see this, beastie. But you must get into OCS alright? So that you can pop by the kopitiam outside all the time for ice lemon tea and supper, and watch S-league on the flat screen tv at the kopitiam! Hah.

Need to get mom to cash in my cheque tomorrow. Going seriously broke man. And I need to borrow a microsoft office from someone! Otherwise when I reformat my com, I'm going to have to do all my word processing at the office. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I already do that most of the time. Heh.
I am so high. I am happy.

I just came home and took a shower. The buzz is slightly dumbed down. But I'm still in my sleepy happy mood.

There is honestly nothing that alcohol cannot solve.

Why the fuck am I blogging anyway?

I guess it's really rare that I feel so genuinely content. I must capture the mood.

It feels like there are five pink helium balloons tied to the top of my cranium.

But when I close my eyes those balloons become anvils.

Bonk.

I took my shower with my eyes closed. The shower curtain kept spinning. Haha.

I laid against the cupboard when I got out and dried off. Wood against skin never felt so comfortable.

Then I had to sit down, because my head was pointing to the ground. Was it? Probably not. Just felt like it.

There should be a rule.

Every drink should be finished in 15 seconds.

And now I am a hundred and god-knows-how-much the poorer.

Fuck it. Poppin. Your allowance is greater than my monthly salary. I demand you pay for this damage done. I got you to your happy place too. I deserve a bonus alright?

Plus. You fell off your chair.

Haha. Actually you leaned over and it fell with you.

I will always remember that image of you lying on your back, stuck in that fuckin rattan cocoon chair at Balcony. And how I just sat in my little rattan cocoon chair laughing my bloody ass off. You made my night worth it man.

And yes, menthol is THE freshmaker.

What the hell, I don't even smoke.

I'm so tired, of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow
Gonna give my heart away
Leave it to the other girls to play

This morning while in the car on my way to work I pondered about what's up with my life now. Like seriously, what's my latest hang-up? Not what I imagine it to be, or what I think it should be, but what it is. Is it the recent ex? The old ex? The never-going-anywhere-important fear? Or just plain ol' alone-for-the-rest-of-my-life fear?

I needed a theme song. I like to think my life is a movie. It's easier like that, because when you watch a movie, at the end you can always just say "That was tragic." or "That was sweet." then go off for ice-cream with your friends.

So anyway - theme song. Couldn't really think of one. Thought of a band of the month though - Portishead.

I'm ever so lost
I can't find my way
Been searching, but I have never seen
A turning, a turning from deceit
Cause the child roses like
Try to reveal what I could feel
I can't understand myself anymore
Cause I'm still feeling lonely
Feeling so unholy

I'm fooling somebody
A faithless path I roam
Deceiving to breathe this secretly
A silence, this silence I can't bear
Cause a child roses light
Tries to reveal what I could feel
And this loneliness
It just won't leave me alone, oh no
A lady of war
Numb
Portishead
Sounds pretty emo dunnit! Haha but it's not. Not really. It's not tear your guts out kinda emo. Like when I read her blog. It's melancholy trip-hop, baby. They make being depressed so hip and cool. I don't actually feel sad when I listen to them, because it's just kind of cool. They make me feel ok about being sad. Maybe even normal to be sad. Emo music like Dashboard makes me feel bad being sad. Now I'm glad to be sad. Haha. Right, max. Check them out on myspace!

Yeah anyway then I came in, turned on the FredFlare.com Boombox and listened to chirpy boppity music! Kinda lifted my mood, you know? Listening to Notorious BIG and Bloc Party etc... Well then I figured I might as well visit my old friend Devin Davis. Hoho listen to her talk like she knows him. Yeah well, FYI, I love Devin Davis. Even if he's not exactly good looking. There's this raw emotion to his voice, when he sings till it almost breaks (not like Linkin Park, mind you). It guts you, yet makes you feel so hopeful. Like a 13 year old choir boy at church singing at a funeral. Does that make sense? I dunno. I don't even go to church. Heh. Found the 1900's from his links page. Found this on The 1900's website -

In our second story, we go our separate ways to find each other wading in garbage and forgiveness. Let's not pretend I'll drop everything for you, but some afternoon you could wake up to a hole in your house, with love peeling off the walls. I'll dig you out with a bucket and sword.

It guts you, yet makes you feel so hopeful.

Yeah well, Band of the Month just became The 1900's. Thanks to Devin Davis (who is THE man... of the Month. Haha.).

I stopped tryin' to write the things I don't like
And I started goin' back, to where I'd been before
She said "I don't blame you I'd do the same"
Opportunity knocks knocks knocks, open the door
But I think she saw through it
I see through myself
Another chance gone, won't get many more

But that's not the only lie I told you
That's not the only lie I told you
You never notice

NoticeGomez
Because I have been banned from using his real name, I am only allowed to call him Poppin. As in, "Mary Poppin". I kid you not. How he got his name however is completely unrelated to the Sound of Music.

Max and Poppin are on the phone planning a rad night of singledom. Max needs help cheering up.

Me: Oh this friday!
Poppin: Can't. Mom's birthday.
Me: Isn't that like, Good Friday?
Poppin: Oh yeah it is!
Me: Omg Easter!!
Poppin: We should have an Easter hunt.
Me: Haha I know I can hide all your cigarettes at various pubs across Singapore! Then you can't smoke them all at once too. Everytime we get to a pub I'll be like 'Ok GO!Hunt!'
Poppin: Oh it'll be so fun will you plan an Easter Cig Hunt for me?
Me: No.
Poppin: Come on.
Me: You know all I'll do is throw a cig randomly around when we get to a pub then I'll be like "Yeah okay go look."
Poppin: Ok.

Poppin: I was like "Omg this girl has not read Crime and Punishment. I cannot go out with her."
Me: Dude. I haven't read Crime and Punishment.
Poppin: Yeah but I'm not going out with you.
Me: True dat. Thinks. So friends are allowed to be stupid but girlfriends aren't?
Poppin: Yeah.
Me: Thanks man.

Me: You were being sensitive.
Poppin: No I wasn't.
Me: You were being sensitive.
Poppin: No, I wasn't!
Me: YouwerebeingSENSITIVE.
Poppin: OK FINE I WAS BEING SENSITIVE AND HE WAS BEING A TWAT.

Who the fuck says TWAT anyway.

meh. bleah. dl;fvjpiodgjaejkldsf. eurgh.

i'm not supposed to be the bad guy!

i'm supposed to be the victim.

i'm the one that moans about the unfairness of life etc etc.

i hate being the bitch.

:(
Lunch break. Crowded cafeteria. Zenobia, Kah fai, Albert and Max sit at a table. They are talking in between bites of laksa, sandwiches or whatever else they are eating.

KF: Zen she says she's mellowed down already! And she's only 19. Can you believe that?
Max: Yah what, I hardly go clubbing and all that anymore... Chilling out at pubs is more fun.
Albert: Wait till you get to uni.
Max: oKayy...
Zen: First rule when you talk to a teenager - they are always in denial.
Haven't been at the office so long (read: 5 days) that it felt like my first day of work again. It's so cool to be out of the office, meeting surgeons and regional reps. Almost wish I had namecards to exchange with them. Well, I'm beginning a small collection, if that counts...Learnt so much about PR these few days!

Haha PR is the official acronym of the month.

Damn useful skill! Everyone should study hospitality just so they can hone their PR skills.

Been talking about boys a lot over drinks with dee. HAHA.

I think I'll turn lesbian. And marry one of my gay friends. :)

Trappings of love, indeed. I'm trapped.

But you know, I think it's pretty obvious by now. I didn't miss you, I'm sorry.

I just wish there was something I could do to make you feel better. I still love you.

It's just that I'm not sure if I'm still in love with you. Are you?

Anyway talking about TV moments, last night was such a wonderful night to be out at clarke quay. The weather was so wonderful, night sky, glittering colourful lights, cool river breeze w/o the stench... Like a scene from a show! Haha. The Olsen Twins in Boat Quay. :P We went there with the intention of going to watch the jam session at Southbridge, only to realise when we got there that we didn't know how to get there! Well we walked one big round, then another, then finally we found the way! I had the number in my phone and I called them up haha ya bimbo moment. Good thing I was wearing comfy heels. Yes, they do exist. Went there and bought myself some house martini that reminded me of Fruitella HAHA yummy sweet and smoooth. It was such a nice place. So chill and classy. Great for talking. The night before Dee and I were having a <3 to <3 at Fashionbar haha that was nearly impossible. We were like, shouting at each other.

But the music was soo goood...

Caught up with Jon in town earlier ystd too. That was fun in an unusual way. Unusual because I never meet up with Jon to catch up. But you know I was desperate for company before meeting up with Dee, and I'd met him on Sat night during our Mission Angkor meeting... Figured I might as well call him up. It was nice to walk about Orchard aimlessly while he ran his errands. Orchard's a place of many good memories for us. Good times. It's been about 5 years now, but it really doesn't feel that long ago when we were sitting at Orchard Library making fun of JK to his face because he was playing Sum 41 so loudly on his DISCMAN. Haha. I guess it's because we only really hung out at the beginning and the end of those 5 years. So in a way, we kinda skipped those 5 years. Haha.

Time is such a funny little thing. You never realise how fast it's moving until you're looking at it backwards.

Words of wisdom:
I don't want things to last. I want things to rot.
What?
Maybe if I was 27 I would want things to last. But now, I just want things to rot.
